NBA 2K14 Review and System Requirements

I recommend the PC version of this game if you can run it, I have everything maxed out with v-sync turned off(which I HIGHLY recommend) and 4x Anti Aliasing, and it looks really good, much better than the current-gen console versions. You can see player's details on their faces and shoes even from the opposite end of the court. 2k didn't change much graphically this year, but we'll see what the next gen version holds.

As for gameplay, the little nuances that 2k has worked so hard on the past 3 years really comes together to make a very realistic experience. I mean, I just have FUN when playing games, because I can see the cpu making adjustments and sudden moves that NBA players would make in real life to make the best of the court situation. Over 3500 new animations were added this year, and you can see it right off the gate. Point guards will put up a three-finger sign as they come off the in bound pass, etc. If there is even a bit of light between the guard and the basket, he will most likely try to drive the lane for the easy basket. Also, you can hear every nuance of what happens on the court, from players screams to the sound the jersey's make when a hard pass is made.

overall:
graphics: 8/10 (textures could have been more next gen)

gameplay: 10/10

Sound: 10/10 (amazing soundtrack and SFX)

presentation: 8/10

overall: 9/10

If you'd rather wait for next gen to buy this game (nov. 22) then we'll see what 2k has to offer on those consoles, but if you have a pc that can max this game, then buy it now.
Verdict: 90/100

FIFA 14 Review and System Requirements

I'm a big fan of the FIFA franchise and this year it is very disappointing with little to no improvements over last year's edition.

Pros:
The cut scenes are improved
Player images are more realistic
Great music as always
Teams are updated

Cons:
Players respond very sluggishly to your commands.
Passing is inaccurate at times(i.e. your passes doesn't go to the desired player or direction).
Something that was fixed in FIFA 13, but is a problem again - Simple passes often bounce off players making one touch passing or a "give and go" passing next to impossible.
The new menu/layout looks nice, but moving around is very frustrating. Often times your desired selection is skipped over.
In Career Mode the changes to scouting/transfers was probably a nice idea in a meeting, but in reality it is overly complicated and can be frustrating.

Overall:
If you have FIFA 13 and are happy, FIFA 14 isn't worth the $60.
Verdict: 40/100

Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 Review and System Requirements

With a big changes this year, especially in gameplay and visual terms, expectations were big. PES 2014 should have been a fresh, new start for PES franchise. But unfortunately, it failed.

Let's start with positive things:
-> Visuals (except there is no grass, again), presentation and atmosphere are way ahead of it's predecessor. Now, you really have the felling you are playing at a real life stadium. A big improvement for the franchise, no doubt.

-> Full scale control over passing and shooting. PES 2014 offers the most precise passing in terms of controller input, when the "advanced" mode of passing is turned ON. When it comes to "advanced" shooting, some time is needed to get used to it, even for PES veterans like me.
-> Dribbling. I am sure that PES veterans are not that thrilled with it because it is heavily simplified. But I am pointing this out as the overall improvement for a larger community of players. Less skill is needed to perform dribble moves.
-> More licensed teams from other continents besides Europe.

Now, the bad things and it is pretty bad:
-> Performance because of the new FOX engine. There is no replay or any break in the game that will not cause a frame rate drop. It is maybe for a second, but it shows that the game was not optimised as it should have been. And because of the new engine, there is no rain or snow. I mean, really? And no grass again, as I pointed out already.
-> AI (talking from the "superstar" difficulty perspective). Opponent players are pretty clever, maybe too much (magical defending), but the goalkeepers are not impressive at all. Another year and the same problem remained. Also, while playing BAL (Become a Legend), no matter what difficulty you choose, your teammates are braindead. It is a frustrating experience, more than enjoyable and I'm sure that is not the way.
-> Passing. It is the most precise ever, but it demands hours and hours of practicing to be able to pass the ball correctly in the match. Most of the players will not have the patience for it, so they will switch to standard passing system which has another big problem. Pass target marking took one step backwards. In the match, you will pass several balls in the way you did not select at all. Tweeking pass support option does not help. "The game knows better" passes, I call it.
-> Dribbling. As I have pointed out above, experienced PES players will not like it at all.
-> So, with all this said, it is time to point out THE MOST ANNOYING thing in the game. LAG, LAG and LAG. When you press a button, you would expect that the game will perform selected action immediately. But that is not the case here. Game needs a whole second and the most saddest thing is the gameplay was made this way, it is not a performance issue. That leads to a slow and sluggish movement of players which eventually breaks the overall pace of the game.
-> Stadiums. PES 2013 had 37 stadiums and this year we have only 18 if I'm correct. I know there has been some issues with licensing and EA, but common, they could at least add more generic stadiums.
-> Soundtrack. Or the lack of it, better said.
-> Stadium creator. Not existent in PES 2014.
-> Fewer modes.
-> No WE and PES United.

One step forward and two steps back. That sentence would, pretty much, describe what PES 2014 is all about. I will stick to PES 2013 for one more year and hope that 2015 will bring overall improvement to the game. Until then, a mediocore 50.
Verdict: 50/100

Pro Cycling Manager Season 2013: Le Tour de France - 100th Edition Review and System Requirements

This game is for the ultra-nerdy and/or cycling fanatic only. I'm the former, not the latter.

PCM is a very forgiving cycling team management game where you become the owner of a team of cyclists who participate in actual cycling events around the world. You can either participate by  matching/managing your riders during an actual 3D race or simulate the race and let the computer crunch the numbers. Hint: you always want to be in control of the action for best results.

Here's the nerdy part: in addition to the action of the races, you also have to manage everything from the signing of cyclists to the scheduling of both races and training sessions, to the wheels on the bikes, to the exhaustion level of your riders to their interest in participating in the Tour de France. There are numbers EVERYWHERE.

It's micromanagement optional, but macro-managment mandatory. There are particular things that you must be involved with, such as signing up for races. This would be annoying to someone who is just looking to race.

I'm a huge nerd, so this game is right up my alley. It's like franchise mode in Madden with draft turned on but on crack. And, if you don't know anything about the world of competitive cycling, you have no choice but to learn the terminology. There's not much; you just need to be willing.

Pros include nice graphics, in-race management is fantastic, micromanagement is very in depth, smart AI, realistic replicas of real-life courses, and a 9 out of 10 on the interface.

Cons include the game starts you in the deep end and expects you to swim, the riders often plow through one another during the race which is sad, and the sponsorship system needs serious work. Also, the game is clearly designed for on-line multiplayer, so single player is a little disjointed. Finally, there's that 1 out of 10 in interface that makes roster management harder than it should be.

I'm straight-up addicted to this thing, which is a shame because I have like three other games to review. It's complex and in depth and gets the blood flowing when it's time to race. There are aspects of cycling that I don't understand, however, I still highly recommend this game to anyone who likes database-fiddling games or knows the competitive-cycling scene.
Verdict: 80/100

Football Manager 2013 Review - Electronic Theatre

90/100 For many years now Sports Interactive has been considered the leader in the field of football management simulations. Competitors have come and gone – including the development team’s original franchise Championship Manager – and while some titles offered a greater amount of instant gratification none could compete with Football Manager in terms of depth. This is one playing field that has never been level, and Sports Interactive intend to tip the scales even further this year by offering those gamers with less time to invest their own opportunity to get involved in the franchise.

    NBA 2K13 Reviews

    Based on 1 critics - Overal Score: 91 / 100

GameInfo: With more than 5 million copies sold worldwide and more than 25 Sports Game of the Year awards won, NBA 2K12 was another monster release for the biggest NBA video game simulation franchise in the world. This year, 2K Sports has joined forces with the legendary JAY Z as Executive Producer to transcend sports video games and take virtual hardwood to the next level. Featuring an enhanced MyCAREER mode and all-new gameplay features, NBA 2K13 will let gamers pit the best players in NBA history against the new dynasty of talent, including the much-debated matchup between the 2012 U.S. Men’s National Team and the 1992 “Dream Team.”

IGN It’s both scary and exciting to think how good a game we might get if NBA 2K actually had a serious competitor pushing it to new heights. But even when left with a clear, unobstructed path to the basket, 2K13 throws down a monster jam with this year’s edition – probably the last one developed solely for this generation of consoles. It’s obviously the best hoops game out there, and it might even be the best sports game of all, period. Read Full Review

CVG It's a fantasy romp around Europe, beating teams, taking their players as prisoners of war and eventually establishing a team of superstars. It's FIFA Street on a continental scale, each win opening routes to countries you've never heard of. You'll start by picking a player as captain - your created Pro will do - and then designing crests, kits, and a team name that strikes fear into the hearts of men. The rest of your ranks are swelled by random no-names; win one match and the defeated will offer their reserves as spoils, win another and you'll get someone off their bench, and win a third time for a member of their starting 11. Pocket-Lint Before we get into the meat of a review that may, we might as well warn you, be more negative than you’d expect, we have to say that we fully applaud EA for releasing its bi-annual licensed international tournament game as an add-on for the superb FIFA 12, rather than a stand-alone game. Too often the FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro games are simply slightly modified versions of the same game engine with new fancy graphics and fewer features. Not so here, this downloadable content is a reward for die-hard FIFA 12 fans. Of sorts. Read Full Review

New Game Network "FIFA Manager 12 is the latest iteration of EA Sports’ long-running soccer management franchise. The series has seen a resurgence in late 2000s, and has mostly kept up the development pace of yearly releases while also bringing significant enough improvements to justify buying a new copy every year. After a rather bug-ridden release in 2010, this year’s edition was said to be focused on fan feedback and there are number of welcome changes that do, in fact, take the series closer to greatness. However, all said and done, there is a very distinct lack of new features in this year’s edition, so you may want to consider if it’s worth the price." Read Full Review

PES 2012 PC Reviews and more

    Based on 7 critics - Overal Score: 83 / 100

GameInfo: Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 is the eleventh edition in the Pro Evolution Soccer series developed and published by Konami vvith production assistance from the Blue Sky Team.

PES 2012's gameplay is primarily a refinement of PES 2011, vvith fewer big changes than the previous iteration but many smaller improvements and changes in areas such as artificial intelligence, speed, animation, and physics.

Among the new features is the Teammate Control system, vvhere a secondary player may be controlled, either during play, or at a set piece or throvv-in. This allovvs players to be placed precisely, make runs, and shake off markers before calling for the ball. Manual and assisted versions of the feature are available for varying degrees of difficulty and control.

Refereeing has been improved and includes a full implementation of the advantage rule, with the referee pulling back play for bookings after the ball goes out of play. The "catch-up bug", where defenders vvould catch dribbling attackers too easily, regardless of the attacker's pace, will be addressed. Gameplay is more fluid, vvith better response vvhen controlling the ball, and goalkeepers have been improved with new animations and generally more reliable goalkeeping performances.

Artificial intelligence has been improved over previous PES games, for example AI players will play more thoughtfully vvhen defending rather than simply applying pressure, and AI teammates will make more intelligent movement decisions.

Chronic Review: I have to admit that I am not at all interested in sports. I am a product of modern society, where staying fit and active equates to hitting the gym and lifting weights. It’s convenient and it doesn’t let competition get in the way of the goal. Sports have never been something I have been much interested in outside of the scope of baseball. Playing sports is something that almost never crosses my mind, and watching them on television less so. But playing them in video game form? I have always scoffed at the idea. That is the reason why when Konami sent me a copy of Pro Evolution Soccer 2012, I contemplated sending it back with a note to let them know that I was in no way qualified to review the game. After much convincing from friends, however, I gave it a shot and played it enough to want to write a review of it. Did it manage to capture me, someone who finds the sports game genre to be absolutely alien? Short answer? “Yes.” Long answer? Read on. Read Full Review

Vantage Magazine: Times have changed in the footballing game world. Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) was a country mile ahead of its rival, FIFA, back in the PS2 days. Cometh the new generation of consoles though and cometh a change in the balance of play, FIFA quickly found new form whereas PES made huge strides; backwards. Of course this is old news for any footy fan and whilst FIFA has settled into its role as number one football game and kept its core very similar, PES has continued to make vast changes with every iteration in order to regain that position, without ever really managing it. We recount this brief history for one reason; for the first time since the days of the 360 and PS3 we think that PES might just have what it takes. Read Full Review

7outof10.co.uk: "What those cumulatively add up to is an attack and defensive cycle that even one-ups FIFA 12 in certain lights. Lighting and stadium detail is also a notch above EA’s offering, with the trademark Japanese obsession with minutia present and correct in terms of proudly recreated lettering on kits and pitch-side activity. Eurogamer.pt: "PES 2012 is the game that fans have been seeking. Even where it is evolving, but at least we were convinced that "Seabass" has found a path and a direction to give to your simulator. The detachment in relation to previous games is not great, but the "gameplay" is better." Read Full Review

GamingBolt: "The game does do what it sets out to do remarkably well. No man can be faulted for disliking the style of gameplay or loving it, and PES’s approach to Soccer certainly has its admirable qualities which set it distinctly apart from the competition. If you are a fan of the technical side of soccer, and enjoy having as much control over the game state at any point in time as you can muster, PES may just be a better fit for you than FIFA. If you are already a fan of PES, you will find that Konami has further improved the experience this time around and this game is a worthy successor to the PES line. Read Full Review

IncGamers Since the onset of the current console generation EA’s Fifa has evolved into a true football lover’s game. Gone is the simplistic ‘pick-up-and-play’ nature that defined the series pre-2007, replaced by something altogether more in-depth, more complex, and more grown up. In its quest to replicate the real-life sport as accurately as possible Fifa has taken on an almost religious following of fans seeking the promised land of the perfect digital-beautiful game.

TJP "FIFA 12 is everything what a football fan wants in a football game. The major striking difference is of course the “new” defending. You will feel like a stranger at first, but when mastered, FIFA 12 will become something that you know at the back of your hand. The passing is fine & fluid, but, it does indeed go pear-shaped when you clearly want to pass to Van Persie than Gervinho. EA have got the balance right, as it comes down to you, the player, to sort out “calamaties” you have caused yourself. FIFA 12 is a clear example that there is still more that can be offered in football games. I would go as far as labelling it “The Shining Becon” of all football games to follow suit of this nature." TrustedReviews While it will represent a challenge to existing FIFA fans, FIFA 12 is worth the effort. Virtua Tennis 4 PC Review (2011)

This is a very good workout and a good chance to play something that is quite close to real tennis. It is not easy to go to a tennis court unless you have one in your back yard and to find someone to play with. One inevitable downside is that sometimes you get bored of winning all the time which is not possible in real tennis. This is due to the fact that you don't need to run at all. Your avatars do all the running for you and that is like you being a superman playing against a mortal. You get good exercise from torso up but very little for legs. As for the arms it's good for one only depending on your being righty or lefty. I have overcome this by playing alternately with right and left hand from set to set.

This is a good advantage playing with the controller. I'm sure it would be very difficult or impossible to do this in real tennis. I also miss the feeling of the weight of the racket and the bouncing of the ball but I can live without these. If you don't mind these downsides and want to get some exercises at home, this is the game I recommend. It burns out your excess blood sugar rather effectively too. Good - 80/100

Major League Baseball 2K11 Review ratings and more

    Based on 1 critics - Overal Score: 92 / 100

    Roy Halladay, cover athlete
GameInfo: Major League Baseball 2K11 or, in short, MLB 2K11, is a MLB licensed baseball simulation video game published by 2K Sports. MLB 2K11 is available 4 Microsoft Windows.

The "main" version of MLB 2K11, the game retains the features of Major League Baseball 2K10, but adds nevv content. Some of the nevv features include the Dynamic Player Rating System (DRPS), which updates a players ability vvith the last four weeks of a real player's activity, which will include slumps and hot streaks. The DRPS vvill only affact hitting and pitching; it vvill not affect a player's fielding ability. There vvill be no option to play without the DRPS turned on, however, and the DPRS do not affect trades, due to the DRPS being a short term value. Franchise modes vvill reflect player values based on franchise stats, not real life. The My Player career mode has similarly been improved and tweaked.

The umpires will now have a more random strike zones, while pitch ratings affect ability to locate pitches. The game will feature the most gameplay sliders than any MLB 2K game before, and 4 the first time, tweaking sliders will not affect achievements. Poor fielders will be "locked out" of good animations, and the fielding rating vvill affect hovv close to the ball the fielder must be to reach it. Base stealing has been revamped, and vvill take into account many variables such as the speed of the runner, type of pitch, lead, and the catcher's arm.
